Good Morning Illesheim

This is where we live, at 7am.

See the landscape around us was used in WWII strategically to help out post be an air field. Back in 1936, the Nazis used Illesheim (then called Luft Park) as an air field for their Air Force. The Americans and alliance troops attacked the post twice, once on the train tracks that runs along the northwest side, and the second time was on the air field which destroyed two of the Nazis air crafts. (Sometimes I think it's easier to see than to imagine ... click here and type Illesheim Germany then zoom way in so you can see what I mean) After those attacks, American forces captured Illesheim and set up residence.

Now that you've had your history lesson, you could understand why we're pretty much in a basin. If you go to this map you can see how our little point A is surrounded by dark green, that's the "hills" as I like to call them ... you could nearly throw a stone over them (come on ... I'm used to living at the foot of the Smoky Mountains).

Soooo ... our little basin village home, created these cool photos John captured one morning when he got home from PT.
